Event Details 06/20/2015 5:00pm Start - Be sure to arrive at the start 30-60 minutes earlier to ensure you are ready to go and can help judge the costume contest.
About The Race
Check out how much fun we have at the Summer Solstice Urban Obstacle Race!
Celebrate the start of summer, get a great workout & drink some beer while helping out the local Food Bank!
This fun evening Urban Obstacle Race coupled with the arrival of summer, Costume Contest, Summer Brewfest, Vancouver USA Marathon weekend and post-event festivities will create a wonderful community celebration while helping out the Clark County Food Bank.
You can do this event solo although it will be A LOT MORE FUN to do it with at least one buddy. Teams can be maximum of 4 adults. If you have more that 4 adults that you want on your team, you can still all do the event together, just split yourselves up into multiple teams.
Each person/team will get an envelope with a clue that will send you to one of 15 stations located throughout downtown and uptown Vancouver.
Once you arrive, you will be required to complete a challenge (physical or mental)
Once you complete the challenge at each station, you will get the next clue to direct you towards next station and a raffle ticket to be used for door prizes at end of night.
Multiple kids can join a team, they just need to be able to complete 3-6 miles of running/walking and various physical challenges.
Note: It is not required to complete all 15 stations. If you are mentally or physically tired, you can return to the start/finish area early and enjoy the festivities. Just know, you won’t get as many raffle tickets and experience all the stations.
You must get to each location by foot. You can use internet, Google, 411 and/or ask for verbal help if needed. If you are lost, you can go back to previous station to get a “One Time Free Pass” to help direct you to next location.
All stations will close at 7:00pm so you have 2 hours to hit all stations. Door prizes will be drawn at 7:30pm and all raffle tickets must be submitted by then to be eligible for prizes.
Note: Everyone will finish at Ester Short Park!
NEEDS: You will need a pen/pencil, a Smart phone so you can look things up and take photos, and $5 total per team just in case.

These athletes are strong consumers of:
- Health & Wellness services such as Massage, Physical Therapy, Chiropractic Care, Natural Medicine, Acupuncture, Personal Training and Coaching. They break it down and need you to build it back up again and keep them healthy, fit and strong.
- Bicycles – A Triathlete will often spend more money on their bike and accessories than they do on vital services!
- Running Shoes – Every runner/triathlete recognizes the importance of a good pair of shoes and once they connect and have success with your brand, they become die-hard, loyal customers and brand ambassadors by default.
- Active Gear & Clothing – Runners & Triathletes will spend a lot of money on tights, compression socks, waterproof clothing, running vests, water-proof jackets, hats, and gloves that make them more comfortable and able to endure the elements better. They also love shirts with fun, witty captions!
- Technical Gadgets – Runners & Triathletes are often technological geeks and love GPS systems and downloadable products that allow them to track and analyze their performances
- Energy Drinks, Bars & Jells – Competitive athletes require healthy, quick energy products and when they find the product that works for them, they rarely waiver and again become brand ambassadors and advocates.
- Fast, cool cars – Runners & Triathletes have a need for speed and it’s not limited to their bikes. They love cool, fast, sporty vehicles that allow them to get outdoors!
- Beer & Wine – Yes, serious athletes do enjoy drinking! Isn’t that why they train so hard?!
- Restaurants – They train hard & eat big to refuel. They are often foodies always looking for the next go-to restaurant.
- Financial Services – They are an educated, wealthy group and are smart enough to know they need to develop a plan for their financial future

Results & Photos
2014 Summer Solstice Video
Summer Solstice was such a blast! I’m loving looking at the photos and all of your smiles! The most hilarious photos are the Tricycle relay, Couch Lift and 100 year old Egg Eating challenge! I hope you’re not too stiff today! I love knowing that we got our community active, helped out the Clark County Food Bank and actually had a ton of fun! A perfect combination! If you haven’t liked our page on Facebook, please do so at https://www.facebook.com/nwpersonaltraining and post your photos so we can all enjoy. And tell your friends how much fun you had so they come and participate next year! We also post upcoming events, fitness and nutrition tips and motivational encouragements on our Facebook page to help keep you on track with your health and fitness goals so be sure to join our little community. This was our first year for this format and I think it was a big hit. But we’ve got to work through some of the logistics and make it even better next year. So after reading this, please scroll down to the bottom and complete our Survey to tell us your thoughts and insights on what we can do better! Here are some of my other highlights from the event: • The Hit Machine band rocked the house! They are my favorite local band! We will definitely have them back again! • The Costume Contest was a lot of fun. I think it’s hilarious to see the looks on people’s faces as a man in a dress, a group of Super Heroes, Despicable Me and Waldo are running through the streets of Vancouver! Let’s make this even bigger next year so start planning your themed costumes now! • The fact that my kids actually really enjoyed this event! I love hosting events that the whole family can be a part of! • The finishers’ shirts looked great on you all – very patriotic. Wear them proudly on July 4th! • The fact that we over-delivered! We promised you 3-6 miles and the fact that we gave some of you 8+ miles, well, we hate to brag but that’s like giving you 100% more than you paid for and not charging you extra! ;) • Recyclable water bottle at the finish line – better for the environment and each time you drink from it, you can remember your awesome accomplishment! • Farrar’s Bistro and Ghost Runners Brewery Food and Beer tent was a big hit! There is absolutely no way we could have pulled this event together without the support from our Sponsors. A huge thank you to Fred Meyer, PowerBar, Corwin Beverage Co, Clark County Sheriff Reserve Unit, SunRise Bagels, Northwest Personal Training, Clarkes Moving, Farrar’s Bistro, Stein Beverage, Ghost Runners, Brewery, Fit Right, Main Event Sports Grill, Divine Consign, Bad Monkey Bikes, Boards & Skate, The Source Climbing Center, When the Shoe Fits, & Beaches – and the best way to thank these companies is to do business with them and to let them know you’re doing business with them because you appreciate the support they have given to the Clark County Food Bank and the Summer Solstice Amazing Scavenger Race. I’d also like to give a big thank you to our team at Northwest Personal Training for working so hard as a team to pull this event off! I feel so honored to work with a team of trainers, customer service reps, interns and clients that are so passionate about helping others and giving back to our community. You all rock!!! And last, a huge thank you to the City of Vancouver including the Mayor, the Vancouver Police Department, the Clark County Sheriff Reserve Program, the Vancouver Fire Department and so many others….I’m sure I’ve forgotten somebody. And if I have, my wish is that all of the volunteers/sponsors and supporters will be blessed for your kindness and generosity. • The best volunteers in the world – One of the hardest parts of putting on an event is finding volunteers who are willing to give of their time and energy. I can’t name them all but you know how you are and I pray you will be blessed for you generosity and serving attitude. Last, I want to thank all of you for participating – it’s people like you who make a huge difference in our world! We all give a little and it adds up to a lot! With love and appreciation, Sherri McMillan Owner – Northwest Personal Training Ps. Are you ready for your next challenge. Sign up today for our Girlfriends & Dudes Triathlon and Duathlon (Bike/Run) on July 21st It’s a short distance tri with a ½ mile swim downstream (so you can float to the finish if you like!), a 12.5 mile bike and a 3 mile run/walk or a 2 mile Run/12.5 mile Bike/3 mile Run. If you’re not up to the full challenge, recruit a few friends and do the relay division and just do the Duathlon (Bike/Run only) division. And get your kids involved in the kids tri – total fun for the whole family! http://www.nwpersonaltraining.com/subs/events/event_details.php?event_id=249 Pps.
