Hagg Lake TriathlonOLYMPIC TRIATHLON/DUATHLON/AQUABIKE
Olympic Course Details
Olympic 1500m Swim: 2 Loops for Olympic Athletes. The swim is a two counter clockwise laps, 1500 meter triangular with water temperatures in the mid 70’s.
Olympic Bike Course: 2 Loops for Olympic Athletes. The bike course is challenging with rolling hills. Olympic cyclists will complete two counter-clockwise loops around the lake.
Olympic Run/Walk: The 10K run is scenic and challenging, with an out and back course clockwise along the lake side road.
Olympic Distance Duathlon: Start with a 5K Run, then complete 2 loops of the Olympic bike course and finish with a 10K Run
Olympic AquaBike: You will start in the AquaBike wave and complete 2 loops of the swim course, then complete 2 loops of the bike course and then you’re done. Rack your bike and make your way through the finish line so we can announce your name and reward you with your finisher’s medal. This is a perfect event for those who are not runners (and don’t want to walk the Tri) and/or those who are recovering from a running injury.
SPRINT TRIATHLON/DUATHLON/AQUABIKE
Sprint Course Details
Sprint 750m Swim: 1 Loop for Sprint Athletes. The swim is a one-loop counter clockwise lap, 750 meter triangular with water temperatures in the mid 70’s.
Sprint Bike Course: 1 Loop for Sprint Athletes. The bike course is challenging with rolling hills. Cyclists will complete one counter-clockwise loops around the lake.
Sprint Run/Walk: The 5K mile run is also scenic and challenging, with an out and back course clockwise along the lake side road.
Sprint Distance Duathlon: 1st Run/Walk will begin with a 5km flat, out and back run or walk. The Sprint Duathlon Bike and Run2 are the exact same as the Sprint Tri (10.34 mile Bike & 5km Run2).
Sprint AquaBike: You will start in the AquaBike wave and complete the 750m swim, then complete the 10.34 mile bike route. Then rack your bike and make your way through the finish line so we can announce your name and reward you with your finisher’s medal. This is a perfect event for those who are not runners (and don’t want to walk the Tri) and/or those who are recovering from a running injury.
OFF ROAD SPRINT TRIATHLON/DUATHLON/AQUABIKE
If you love adventure, a fun challenge, trail running, triathlons, and riding your mountain bike, you won’t want to miss this event at Hagg Lake Multi-Sport weekend festival.
The scenery is epic and the course is challenging! You’ll definitely earn your beer!
- OFF-ROAD Sprint Triathlon: 750m Swim, 14 mile Bike, 5K Run (Start Time – 8:00am in waves)
- OFF-ROAD Sprint Duathlon: 14 mile Bike, 5k Run (Start Time – 8:10am Time Trial)
- OFF-ROAD Sprint AquaBike: 750m Swim, 14 mile Bike (Start Time – in AquaBike Wave)
NOTE: Our OffRoad Triathlon is sanctioned by USAT so all USAT Rules and Guidelines apply. The most signifcant diffferences for an Off-Road Triathlon compared to a Road Triathlon are as follows:
Legal Bikes: Only mountain bikes are legal for competition. Cyclo-cross bikes are not allowed. No drop handlebars are allowed. No aero bars are allowed. All bikes must have 26”, 27.5” or 29” wheels. Bar extensions or grips off the handlebars may not exceed five inches (5”). Any/all bar ends must be capped. Be sure you have the correct tires to manage challenging terrain including steep climbs and descents, branches, roots, rocks, dirt and mud.
Passing: Lapped riders must yield to overtaking riders. Riders should voice the command “On your left,” when overtaking another. It is the responsibility of faster rider to overtake safely. Slower riders must yield to the passing rider on the first command. In the event two riders are racing for position, the leading rider does not have to yield position to the challenging rider. However, a rider may not bodily interfere with or impede another rider’s progress.
Course: An Off-Road Triathlon often has many trail junctions. You are resonsible for understanding the course and how it will be marked and paying attention at all intersections to assure you stay on course. It is suggested that you slow down at all upcoming intersections to minimize any wrong turns and assure you stay on course with the least amount of back-tracking. Along the Hagg Lake course, you will always have the Lake on your Right and the Road on your left so although you may get off course, you won’t get too lost for too long. If you haven’t seen a course marking in about a 1/2 mile, turn around to find your last course marking.
Drafting: Drafting is allowed.
OFF ROAD 14 MILE BIKE COURSE: The 14 mile Off-Road Cycle is a fun and challenging clock-wise loop around Hagg Lake. You will be required to manage steep climbs, descents, tree roots, branches, dirt, mud and rocks. It is ok to get off your bike and walk or carry it through challenging areas that may be above your current fitness or experience level. There will be some points where you will come off the trail and onto the road for a section. Be sure to watch for vehicles so you can safely enter the road and ride defensively. At each road section, there will be markings to indicate you are on course and markings to get you back onto the trail. It is important to know that the first few miles of the course are the most challenging and technical so once you get through that area, it will become less technical.
OFF ROAD 5K TRAIL RUN: The 5k Trail Run is an Out and Back route leaving Transition in a clock-wise direction around the lake. It is technical with climbs, descents and obstacles to manage such as tree roots, branches, rocks, dirt and mud. Feel free to walk throughout the entire course or any technical areas. It is a narrow trail and you will be required to maneuver around other runners so be sure to safely pass and stay to the right.
OFF ROAD DUATHLON: This duathlon is a bike-run format where you will bike the 14 mile Off-Road Cycle, then proceed to run the 5km trail run course.
OFF ROAD AQUABIKE: Athletes will swim the 750m swim course first, then bike the 14 mile Off-Road Cycle course.
OFF ROAD 5K & HALF MARATHON TRAIL RUN
OFF ROAD 5K TRAIL RUN: The 5k Trail Run is an Out and Back route leaving Transition in a clock-wise direction around the lake. It is technical with climbs, descents and obstacles to manage such as tree roots, branches, rocks, dirt and mud. Feel free to walk throughout the entire course or any technical areas. OFF ROAD HALF MARATHON TRAIL RUN: The 14 mile Off-Road Half Marathon is a fun and challenging clock-wise loop around Hagg Lake. You may want to walk through challenging areas that may be above your current fitness or experience level. There will be some points where you will come off the trail and onto the road for a section. Be sure to watch for vehicles so you can safely enter the road and run/walk defensively. Aid Stations
Water/Electrolyte Aid stations: Sprint athletes will have access to water stations twice on the run course, and Olympic athletes will have access five times on the run course. There will be one porta-potty available for athletes to use on course.
